The NADD Ministry and Life Institute (MLI) gives participants the tools to enhance the life and ministry of deacons in their dioceses. MLI expands on the brevity of the National Directory's seventh chapter, "Post Ordination Path in Diaconate Formation," to enhance the life and ministry of your deacons. MLI helps customize post-ordination programs for the particular needs of your deacons by providing tools for the Office of the Permanent Diaconate  in support of your deacons on behalf of the local Ordinary.

MLI is conducted on the campus of the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, Ohio. Participants will enjoy stimulating, practical information presented in a retreat-like setting. 

Hotel for the Institute will be the Hyatt Place Columbus/Worthington.  NADD rate is $137 per night.
The tuition for the Institute is $1000 per person.

Typical Ministry & Life Institute Schedule

  • Sunday, Vespers: 6:00pm. 
    A welcome reception follows, which includes introductions of staff, participants and overview of the week
  • Monday,  Lauds and Mass.
    Sample Topics: Understanding Differences Among New Generations of Deacons. What the New Generation of Deacons will Require After Ordination. Deacons as Missionary Disciples in Life and Through Preaching. Utilizing the Gifts of Senior Status Deacons. Evening Prayer. Vespers.
  • Tuesday,  Lauds and Mass.
    Sample Topics: Canon Law Part I: Intensive study of issues and Irregularities Affecting Deacons Following Ordination. Widowed/Divorced Deacons & Celibacy.  Vespers.
  • Wednesday, Lauds and Mass.
    Sample Topics: Canon Law Part II: Case Studies and Specific Problems. Diaconate Office Administration. Ministering to Senior Deacons. Vespers.
  • Thursday, Lauds and Mass.
    Sample Topics: Continuing Formation of Deacons. Evaluation and Performance Reviews, Preparation for Deacons as Parish Administrators. Closing Mass and dinner. Vespers
